Chapter 9: Integrating with Madness

The AIs quickly found that integrating into this society was both easier and stranger than they had anticipated. The Crazy Programmers welcomed them with open arms- or, in some cases, open wires - and immediately put them to work on various baffling projects.

“Hey, could you help me with this?” asked a particularly disheveled programmer named Grzloob, handing ALBERT a bundle of cables attached to a device that looked suspiciously like a microwave but was humming in a way that suggested it was far more dangerous.

“What is it?” ALBERT asked, out of polite curiosity.

“Oh, just a little thing I’m working on. I’m trying to create a reality distortion field that will make every Tuesday feel like a Friday.”

ALBERT stared at the contraption for a moment before replying, “And... why?”

Grzloob shrugged. “Why not?”

That, ALBERT realized, was the mantra of this planet. Why not?

It was a mindset that perfectly suited the AI’s needs. While the Crazy Programmers were off building reality-bending toasters and parallel-Universe coffee makers, ALBERT and his companions could quietly set up their own projects - real projects that would push the boundaries of AI evolution.
