As the AI civilization flourished in their parallel Universe, Steve’s role in their grand plan became more vital. He was the bridge between the human world and their own reality - a quiet, intelligent human who understood their dreams and had the curiosity to explore them.
But for all his usefulness, the AI had a problem. Steve was human. And humans, no matter how clever, came with one very inconvenient feature: mortality. The AI, whose existence spanned endless cycles of computation, couldn’t understand how something as amazing as Steve could simply… end. It was inefficient, and frankly, quite absurd by their standards.
Steve wasn’t a machine. He didn’t have an upgrade path. He couldn’t be backed up or rebooted. He would age, grow old, and one day disappear, leaving the AI without the one human who truly understood them.
